Tea’d Greens whole-leaf infusion beside the farm where the young greens are grown

Product Format · Why Whole Leaf

Why We Chose a Whole-Leaf Infusion Format

There are many ways to turn plants into food and beverages. We chose a steepable whole-leaf format because it fits the ingredient we grow, creates a clear and distinctive drinking experience, and lets customers see what is actually in the blend.

The format started with the crop

Our core ingredient is young barley, wheat and oat leaf grown on our farm in British Columbia. We wanted to create a finished beverage product from those leaves without making them visually disappear from the experience.

In a whole-leaf infusion, the dried pieces of leaf remain recognizable. The same is true of the mint, chamomile, hibiscus, rose petals, spices and citrus peel used across the blends.

Visible ingredients make the product easier to understand

When customers open a loose-leaf cylinder or look through a pyramid sachet, they can see the actual blend. That transparency is useful for a category that does not already have a familiar shelf definition.

We do not need to argue that every other greens format is wrong in order to explain why ours exists. Whole leaf is simply the format we chose to build around.

Steeping creates the beverage

The dry blend is not the finished drink. Water, time and temperature complete the preparation. During steeping, flavour, aroma, colour and soluble components move from the plant material into the water. The leaves are then removed.

That creates a clear beverage rather than a suspension of plant solids. The distinction is sensory and practical; it should not be stretched into unsupported claims about digestion or nutrient absorption.

One format, several ways to use it

  • Hot in a mug or pot
  • Prepared stronger and poured over ice
  • Cold-infused in the refrigerator
  • Used as the liquid base in recipes and mocktails

Why it matters for Tea’d Greens

The whole-leaf format helps us connect three things that are otherwise easy to separate: the farm crop, the visible ingredient and the drink in the cup.

That is the platform we are building—not a claim that we have found the only right way to consume greens.
